After launching what is undoubtedly the weirdest, tackiest marketing campaign in automotive history, Jaguar started leaking teaser images of an upcoming concept vehicle which is supposedly going to turn around the ailing brand. But the full images of that electric car have leaked online and it’s just as crazy and misguided as the marketing materials.
Watch a father flee from Arkansas troopers in the rain while his kids are in the backseat.
Let’s face it, Jaguar has lost its way entirely. The storied brand which once made cool, sexy luxury sports cars sunk into mediocrity and now is sliding gleefully into a bizarre end.
The leaked Jaguar GT concept images look so ridiculous we at first had to question if they were real when Auto Express leaked them. But they line up with the teaser images Jaguar put out, so they appear genuine. Now we need eye bleach, the thing looks so hideous.
We’re talking Tesla Cybertruck level of design choices here. Why it has to be pink is a mystery, because the color alone will be polarizing for obvious reasons. For some reason, the concept EV has blocky bodylines and massive grilles on both the front and rear. Like many modern vehicles, it sports thin headlights and foglights, but in the rear there are zero lights visible, so those likely are embedded in the grille slots.
While Jaguar claims to have copied nothing in its design, it seems the company took a page out of the Tesla playbook and gave this concept a minimalist, rather banal interior. It looks so cold an uninviting, which is sad since interiors were about the only thing going for Jaguar recently.
Since it paused all sales of new cars, Jaguar’s plan is to relaunch its lineup of redesigned, all-electric vehicles. This comes at a time when many automakers like GM, Volvo, and Ford have taken a financial beating on their EV ventures. That alone could kill Jaguar, but the design language demonstrated in this concept should only hasten that fate along.
Jaguar plans to unveil this automotive atrocity during Miami Art Week, we assume next to a banana duct taped to the wall, since they’re on about the same level of ridiculousness. While it seems the brand really feels this is going to reshape it into some industry leader, it’s more likely the death rattle of an historic company which has been on life support for some time. Sad.
