Usually, police chases involving suspects in a Chrysler 300 aren’t all that interesting. After all, unless it’s an SRT8 model, they’re not particularly fast. But this one a guy uses to run from Cross County deputies in Arkansas apparently has a Hellcat engine swap. Even when Arkansas State Police get involved in the chase they struggle as the Mopar sends it at 174 mph.
A Dodge Mangum proves tough for police to PIT.
Our camera car first has to catch up to the active chase and usually that involves a lot of boring driving around traffic and such. But the Hellcat 300 just shows up out of nowhere making a sudden U-turn around innocent civilians as a deputy struggles to keep up.
Our trooper begins his chase right away. Even though he starts off right on top of the suspect, and tries pulling a PIT maneuver off the bat, he can’t quite execute on it.
Once the guy drops the hammer he just starts pulling away and there’s nothing the trooper can do about it. That was the trooper’s one real chance to end the pursuit and he couldn’t stick the landing.
After getting badly gapped, the trooper keeps on hauling at 140 mph but the Hellcat-powered Chrysler fades far off into the distance so we can’t even see it on the dashcam. Cops are swarming the area, but the suspect’s position is changing rapidly as he gets into a town and no longer is on the open highway.
Eventually, the combination of superior speed and a suspect who knows to get into a grid and make several rapid turns, the Hellcat 300 disappears entirely. Deputies and troopers keep combing the area trying to find the Chrysler and one of them spots it, so everyone speeds off in that direction.
Apparently, our suspect lives in the area, but an Arkansas Game and Fish sergeant spotted two guys trying to cover up the rather distinct sedan with a tarp. While the driver was long gone, troopers confirmed the Chrysler was the one they were chasing and that it was uninsured. But it sounds like they knew exactly who was driving, meaning even though the guy got away, it’s only a matter of time before he gets caught. Plus, his car was impounded.
Don’t run from police, even if you have a fast car, it’s just not worth the risks.
