Shocking footage shows a man walk up to a Jaguar F-Type parked in the driveway of a home in Butler County, Ohio, place a package on top of the hood, light it, then walk away as the car burns. It’s the type of thing everyone fears but we all just know would never happen to us, or so we hope. But for one woman, that reality came crashing down around her.
A new report sheds some light on security vulnerabilities of robotaxis.
Awakened in the night by a call from her boyfriend, who received a motion alert from a security camera, the woman called 911 as the fire raged out of control. Thankfully, firefighters were able to stop the blaze before it spread to a nearby home, but the Jaguar was totaled, its front end completely melted.
After searching the area, police found the alleged attacker, 29-year-old Farhan Jami of East Meadow, New York, sleeping in a car parked nearby. They found not only the clothing items the attacker was wearing in the video, but also residue consistent with the device used to burn the Jaguar.
In a press release, the US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Ohio announced Jami was sentenced to 46 months in prison for possessing and unregistered incendiary device. He apparently built it out of thermite and sparklers, which he brought with him on the airplane flight, using a ceramic pot to contain the powder.
The most shocking part of this crime is the supposed motive. Allegedly, Jami sent a substantial amount of money to the victim, a Twitch streamer, after falling in love with her from watching her videos. But then he found out the woman had a boyfriend and felt like he had been deceived.
The burning her Jaguar to the ground was done for revenge. Who even does something like that? There we thought the biggest threat about parking outside and not in your garage is someone might try stealing your car, not light it on fire.
