Seeing a 2006 Porsche Cayman S covered in thick dust is shocking to be sure, but to find out it’s for sale online for $18,000 after the price was reduced from $1,800,000 is astounding (we’ve included a screenshot showing the price reduction, just in case). That alone was enough to pique our interest in this car when we ran across the listing on Facebook Marketplace. Now we want to know if you would take the gamble on this cheap Porsche.
A 9-year-old is among a group of carjackers caught in Baltimore.
As we suspected, that thick coating of barn find dust isn’t just to increase the value of this Cayman, it’s a clear indication it hasn’t run in a while. The owner says he blew the motor going 191 mph with it revving at 8,800 rpm. That was three years ago and the thing is still sitting.
The guy also says this car has a wet NOS kit, although there’s no indication on the size or anything else about the setup. It was also running a TCP turbo, which was pushing 14 lbs. of boost. We assume those are still in the car, which we’d definitely ask about. We’d also inquire about the state of those mods. After all, blown turbos can be messy.
Also, this Porsche has been lowered and has some sort of aftermarket exhaust system – we’d ask for details on both. The wheels aren’t Porsche factory but instead are also aftermarket and allegedly cost $5,000.
In the listing, the seller says there are 85,000 miles on this Cayman S, which is low for the year. Just remember, the engine needs a wee bit of work. He claims the body and interior are “flawless.” It’s hard to tell what the paint is like with all the dust covering it, but we don’t spot any big flaws in the body panels. But we know from experience dirt can hide all sorts of things.
When it comes to the interior, it looks overall put together. However, either a bag of flower exploded in there or there’s some mold growing in the unused vehicle. We know that can be cleaned out, just we also believe in knowing what kind of mess you’re getting into when you buy a car like this.
On the plus side, this thing has a 6-speed manual transmission, so there’s that.
Finally, the seller says he’s invested $50,000 into this Porsche he’s willing to let go for $18,000. Is this a case of his loss and your gain? Or would you scoot right on past this Cayman and find another that’s more expensive but running?
