Fail: Georgia Trooper PITs Fleeing Suspect In The Worst Spot Possible

While it’s really something to see a little Mazda3 run from a Georgia trooper, what’s even more surprising in this dashcam footage is where the trooper chooses to PIT out the suspect. Watch the footage for yourself and tell us what you think, but we believe this member of Georgia State Patrol picked the worst spot for a TVI.

Guy falls for a vehicle cloning scam, then is busted by cops.

What started the whole attempted traffic stop was the trooper seeing the Mazda go around congested traffic using the right turn lane, according to the trooper’s report, then running a red light. Instead of pulling over when the trooper turns on his lights and sirens, the suspect takes off, leading to quite the chase.

Once it’s clear the suspect knows he’s being chased, the guy gets off onto smaller backroads, blows through stop signs, crosses over lane lines, and drives the little Mazda like he stole it. He even goes head-on with oncoming traffic, narrowly missing a collision.

In other words, the suspect has shown little regard for his or the safety of others on the road. The trooper needs to bring the chase to a close soon before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

That’s when the trooper tells dispatch he’s going for a PIT maneuver. But as he moves into position to execute the tactical vehicle intervention, the suspect gets loose, foiling the trooper’s attempt.

Right after that unsuccessful first attempt, the suspect goes head-on with two more innocent motorists, again narrowly missing them. It seems the Mazda driver understands the trooper is seeking to take him down, so he drives even more aggressively and faster.

Perhaps that’s why the trooper doesn’t try another PIT maneuver for a bit. But it doesn’t explain why he waits until the suspect is in heavy traffic going both directions before spinning the Mazda out most brutally.

The suspect’s Mazda strikes one car, while the trooper’s cruiser rear-ends another. Sure, it ends the chase, but it also potentially injures innocents, which we thought was what police are supposed to avoid.

Everyone can argue whether the trooper could’ve done a PIT in between the failed attempt and this “successful” one. We just think it’s unfortunate other people were involved in the resulting collision.
