An Arizona state trooper vehicle parked on the shoulder of a highway was struck by a car transport truck, creating a dramatic incident that was captured on dashcam and quickly spread across law enforcement and automotive social media. The transport driver, operating a Ram truck with a loaded car carrier, failed to move over or slow down when approaching the parked emergency vehicle despite laws in Arizona and every other US state that require drivers to create space for emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside. The trooper was fortunately not in the vehicle at the time of impact.

Move-over laws exist because roadside emergency incidents are among the most dangerous situations law enforcement officers and roadside workers face, with vehicle strikes being a leading cause of on-duty officer fatalities. Despite the laws being widely publicized and the fines for violations being significant, compliance rates remain imperfect, and incidents like this one demonstrate the potentially catastrophic consequences of drivers failing to follow the requirement. The driver faces charges related to the crash, and the incident has been used as an education opportunity by Arizona law enforcement to reinforce awareness of move-over law requirements.
