A video posted to Instagram showing a Camaro wrecking into a curb during a street takeover has people howling with laughter. Fails from takeovers are popular on social media, which we think is part of the reason people attend the illegal gatherings, filming all they can. But there’s something off about this video we don’t see anyone talking about.

Watch a fleeing street takeover Acura get wrecked hard by cops.

The video looks like it’s shot somewhere in Southern California, likely the Los Angeles area. As the silver Chevy Camaro convertible drifts around a blocked off intersection, water sprays out from what appears to be an open fire hydrant.

We’re guessing the water is to help the muscle car drift around on the pavement. Plus, it might be for some fun chaos, a hallmark of takeover events, as well as a sign of defiance of authority. The water does work well for allowing the tires on the Camaro to slip and slide.

As the Chevy whips around the intersection over and over, one kid is basically hanging out of the open top, another common feature of takeovers or “side shows.” We guess that’s for the thrill of possibly dying. Sometimes the passengers fall out or get trapped when drifting cars roll.

But in this case it’s a curb that ends the fun, the rear driver’s side wheel smacking into it at speed. Instead of just leaving nasty case of curb rash, the impact breaks the wheel’s spokes, severing all but the middle from the hub.

At first the driver doesn’t seem to understand why the Camaro won’t drive as fast. People shout to him that he broke the wheel. As he and the two passengers get out, we noticed something very off. If we were to break our wheel doing something stupid like this, we would at least stick by the car, examining the damage.

Other people might lose it, yelling, crying, screaming, something. After all, that’s a pricey repair. Instead, the driver walks off like it’s nothing. Why would he do that? The only reason we can think of is the vehicle is stolen so he doesn’t have to worry about fixing it or explaining the damage to daddy.
