Stellantis is delaying the beginning of production for two electric Ram trucks, yet again, as market demand for EVs continues to slump. Those two models, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV, were originally supposed to launch by the end of 2024. Now, they won’t be out until 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Porsche is having its own EV crisis at the moment.
It wasn’t that long ago Ram was bragging about how forward-thinking and progressive it was for pushing electrification, so to see his happening is just really something. The times are changing quickly, yet when we and others pointed out a couple of years ago this was the inevitable conclusion of the EV bandwagon, that was portrayed as being anti-technology.
Apparently, Stellantis spilled the beans on the production delay for its electrified Ram trucks in a memo issued to suppliers, reports The Detroit News. In other words, the automaker just wasn’t going to say anything to the public and hope everyone forgot it already blew past the original launch date, then pushed it back again.

We know it probably seems like ages ago, but the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV were unveiled back in 2023. That means the launches will happen three and four years after the fact. That’s unusually long in the auto industry, especially in the past decade or so since most products take around two years to develop.
What that means is there are problems with these trucks. That could be something engineering or it might be more about market timing.
Originally, people were saying Ram was smart for coming out with its electric trucks after the Ford Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV launched because the other two automakers wouldn’t have as ironed-out of tech. That take hasn’t aged well at all.
However, Stellantis has benefitted from seeing that not only is demand for the Tesla Cybertruck imploding, it’s also crumbling for the Lightning and Silverado EV. That might be the problem that’s delaying production, again.
