GMC is making a big deal about its “first and only EV supertruck” the Hummer EV getting a bunch of new features for the 2026 model year. While the pricey all-electric brick gets some fun little gizmos like a King Crab steering mode for all that off-roading owners will never do, the sad reality is we don’t think this putting lipstick on a pig is going to make the modern Hummer sell.
Dodge is killing off the all-electric Charger R/T.
As we’ve noted before, the GMC Hummer EV is a bit of a market stinker. We’re not hating on it because it’s big or expensive; we’re just noting that they really aren’t all that appealing to consumers, maybe for a number of reasons.
Like we covered recently, a still brand new 2024 GMC Hummer EV Omega Edition that was just sitting at a dealer sold for a big discount of $29,000 on Bring A Trailer, showing the hulking electric vehicle doesn’t have strong market pull.
But just like any good magician, GMC is going to try distracting consumers from that with some flashy new trinkets so they’ll gladly fork over a small fortune at a dealership, or sign up to pay that over 84 months.

With the King Crab feature, which is just a software update, the rear steering on the Hummer EV is improved because the rear wheels turn faster than the front for better maneuverability. GMC could do this for all the vehicles, but it’s locking the feature to just 2X and 3X models because that’s how the auto industry is these days.
By the way, King Crab will be pushed out to all the Hummer EVs later in 2025. So why buy the new model?
The answer is to get the Carbon Fiber Edition, which is the quickest Hummer EV yet. We don’t know why you’d need to sprint from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds while driving a giant brick, but you can if you pay enough to own the Hummer EV Carbon Fiber Edition. Or, you can wait for this thing to sit at a dealership for almost two years, then get one for $29,000 less, maybe even a little more than that.
At least this new model isn’t just software, because the ridiculous acceleration requires some hardware upgrades. Plus, you get the Magnus Gray Matte paint and Velocity Ember interior, which are exclusive to the Carbon Fiber Edition.
You might be wondering why the truck is named Carbon Fiber Edition if the body isn’t made of the stuff. Well, that would make a lot of sense if it were, but the wheels are carbon fiber and there are carbon fiber inserts on the side mirror caps and skid plate because that apparently made sense in a board meeting with executives.
There are other upgrades for the 2026 GMC Hummer EV, like Super Cruise improvements. We just wait to see what MSRP is for the truck, especially the Carbon Fiber Edition and how much these will auction for in a year and a half.
