Usually when we see suspects transporting stolen cars it’s one or two at a time, but a Dominican man crashed a whole semi-truck towing a car carrier in Pennsylvania. According to police, every single vehicle on the carrier was stolen.
A member of Congress wants to eliminate overly bright headlights.
The man was driving down Interstate 83 when the semi left the road early on the morning of May 12. As the truck and trailer rolled onto the side of a ditch, they tipped over, spilling the stolen cars everywhere.
Probably realizing he was in big trouble, 39-year-old Ramon Vasquez-Fajardo who is a Dominican national with a US driver’s license, took off on foot. A witness saw the whole accident and police were able to find the driver trotting along the interstate, trying to put distance between him and the mess he made.
After he was arrested, Vasquez-Fajardo decided to exercise his Fifth Amendment rights, refusing to identify himself to police (which actually isn’t covered by the Fifth Amendment). He must’ve not realized he had his New Jersey driver’s license in his pocket as well as his government ID from the Dominican Republic, so he was quickly identified.
Investigating the incident further, police contacted the owner of the semi-truck and car transport trailer. That man said he didn’t even know the vehicle was missing, so it was in fact stolen as well, reports WHP.
Investigators were able to quickly identify a Dodge Durango on the transport trailer, saying it was recently reported stolen out of New Jersey. They were working to get all the information for the other five cars.
Vasquez-Fajardo was charged with three felony counts of receiving stolen property as well as three summary traffic offenses. We wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hit with more charges later.
We’re guessing Vasquez-Fajardo doesn’t have a CDL and isn’t too good at driving a semi-truck.
