Shelby GT500 Wrecks At Cars And Coffee

There’s something about Mustangs and meets like Cars and Coffee, like how this Shelby GT500 crashed leaving one recently. While we know this sort of thing does happen with Camaros, Challengers, BMWs, and other performance rides, more often than not it seems the ubiquitous pony car is involved.

Semi-truck brake shoe comes flying through a car’s windshield in Arizona.

The incident in question went down at the Tri City Cars and Coffee in Colorado on June 8. As people are leaving the meet, some decided to rev their engines and lay down some rubber, a thing which has led to many other gatherings getting shut down.

We assume others pulled off smoking their tires without incident. But this guy with a nice S550 Shelby GT500 sends it, tires roasting and supercharger whining, when things get out of control in a hurry.

You can tell the guy lifts off the throttle, probably figuring he had done enough, but he does so abruptly. The back end breaks free and starts rotating counterclockwise. Rather than throttle steer his way out, the guy lays off the accelerator completely and hits the brakes, worsening the rotation.

Everyone watches in disbelief as the muscle car careens across the street, smoking its tires in a very not good way, before it hits a curb and a vehicle parked on the side of the road.

A mass of people, including our cameraman, run over to film the carnage. The front passenger wheel is sheered off just below the hub and the rear passenger wheel sits at a sick angle, the axle obviously snapped.  

Plus, there’s obvious damage to the front fascia on the rather pricey Shelby.

It gets even worse as the guy lets a young boy out of the backseat. We can’t say he’s for sure the kid’s father, but it’s likely he is. The fact the guy was driving like that with his son in the car is enough to shock any responsible parent.
