Ford has issued a recall covering approximately 850,000 vehicles after reports and testing confirmed that affected models can stall without warning while being driven, a condition that poses a direct safety risk particularly at highway speeds or in traffic where an unexpected loss of power can precipitate a collision.

Sudden engine stalling eliminates power-assisted steering and braking in most conventional vehicles, dramatically increasing stopping distances and reducing maneuverability. Drivers who are not immediately aware of what has happened and how to respond face a heightened risk of losing control of the situation.

The specific technical cause was identified through Ford’s engineering investigation and the remedy will be applied at dealer level at no charge to vehicle owners. Ford said the defect affects vehicles from specific model years across multiple nameplates in its lineup.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification by mail and are encouraged to schedule dealer service promptly. In the meantime, Ford recommended that owners monitor for any signs of stalling behavior and contact a dealer or roadside assistance if the problem occurs.

The volume of vehicles involved makes this one of the larger Ford recalls of the recent period and reflects the scale of production runs that modern recall actions often must address across multiple model years sharing the same underlying component.
