An armed felon driving a Ford Mustang S550 fled an Arkansas State Police trooper, setting off a pursuit that added serious charges to what was already a significant criminal history and resulted in a dangerous high-speed chase on Arkansas highways.
The S550-generation Mustang is a capable performance car in GT configuration, but the trooper’s determination and backup coordination made a clean escape unlikely from the outset. Arkansas State Police have a well-documented pursuit policy and troopers trained specifically for high-speed intervention techniques.
The suspect’s status as an armed felon — prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law — added a federal dimension to the charges beyond the state-level fleeing and reckless driving counts.
The pursuit ended through trooper intervention. The suspect was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered. Federal prosecutors were expected to join state authorities in filing charges given the combination of illegal weapon possession and the interstate criminal background.
The Mustang sustained significant damage during the intervention. No civilian motorists were reported injured during the chase.
