Man Tries Saving Turtle On The Interstate

Before we even looked the location of this story of a man trying to save a turtle that was on the interstate, we knew. That’s right, it happened in Florida, but if you guessed California that was a good one, too.

However, the guy who did the brave and yet not-so-smart thing was from Vermont. He was also 77 years old, so old enough to know better to be walking around on an interstate. We wonder what the guy was thinking.

That’s right, we keep say “was” because the man sadly died trying to save the turtle he spotted. We guess he just trusted people would see him and brake.

A woman did, but the guy traveling in a Dodge Ram behind her didn’t, slamming into the woman’s car, pushing her off the interstate. Then the heavy pickup truck kept going, as they often do in collisions, mowing down the man who was trying to rescue the turtle.

While it’s tragic the man was killed in the incident, even worse is the fact the turtle also didn’t survive.

At least none of the drivers and passengers in the cars were injured. That’s the silver lining in this story.

But this tragic event does highlight a very real lesson: never go out onto an interstate. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to rescue an animal, retrieve something that flew out of your truck bed, or whatever else you think is worth the risk.

People aren’t expecting to see pedestrians on the highway. The same thing goes for stopping all the way on the interstate. While some emergencies necessitate you do just that, we would be incredibly careful about stopping or even going really slow with such fast-moving traffic that’s not expecting you to be stopped coming up on you.
