Miami police are investigating a dramatic early-morning crash involving a stolen Ferrari that ended with a shattered utility pole in the city’s Brickell neighborhood. The incident, which occurred Tuesday, was captured on surveillance video and later shared with local media.
According to information from the Miami Police Department, the investigation began when a woman reported her Ferrari stolen. Police said the vehicle’s tracking system indicated it was located near Southwest 2nd Avenue and 17th Street. Officers responded to the area and soon observed a person entering the Ferrari and driving away.
As officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, police said the driver fled. Surveillance footage shows the moments that followed, beginning with the sound of tires screeching and a vehicle accelerating out of view. Seconds later, the Ferrari reappears in the frame and crashes violently into a utility pole.
The impact snapped the pole in half as it cut through the vehicle. Sparks are seen shooting in multiple directions, followed by a bright flash as the car came to rest nearby. A police cruiser then enters the frame shortly before the video ends.
Police said the driver lost control of the Ferrari during the attempted escape. Before striking the utility pole, the vehicle also collided with a police cruiser. The extent of damage to the patrol vehicle was not detailed in the information provided.
