Breaking Down the Surveillance Footage
Miami police are investigating an early-morning crash in the Brickell neighborhood after surveillance video captured the dramatic moment a stolen Ferrari slammed into a utility pole while fleeing officers. The footage, later shared with local media, offers one of the clearest looks yet at how quickly the pursuit turned violent.
How the Chase Began
According to the Miami Police Department, the case started when a woman reported her Ferrari stolen, and the vehicle’s tracking system indicated it was located near Southwest 2nd Avenue and 17th Street. Officers responding to the area saw someone get into the Ferrari and drive off, and when they attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled instead of pulling over.
Tires Screech, Then the Ferrari Hits the Pole
The surveillance video shows the sequence in striking detail: tires screeching as the car accelerates out of frame, then the Ferrari reappearing seconds later before crashing violently into a utility pole. The impact snapped the pole in half as it cut through the vehicle, sending sparks in multiple directions and producing a bright flash as the car came to rest. A police cruiser enters the frame shortly before the clip ends. Police say the Ferrari also collided with a patrol car before hitting the pole, though the extent of damage to that vehicle wasn’t detailed.
Driver Hospitalized, Booking Pending
At the time this footage was released, the driver had not been publicly identified. Authorities said the individual was taken to a hospital for treatment of a laceration and would be booked, though specific charges weren’t listed in the information available at that stage of the investigation. No other injuries were reported.
A Dramatic Scene in a Dense Neighborhood
The crash created a significant scene in Brickell, an area known for its dense residential towers and busy streets. Utility crews were expected to address the downed pole following the incident. Miami police continue investigating both the theft and the crash, and the surveillance video has become a key piece of evidence in reconstructing exactly how the pursuit unfolded.
This crash is the same incident later confirmed by police to involve 28-year-old Deshawn Prendergast and linked to a separate overnight theft of a Rolls-Royce and Ferrari from a Miami Beach transport company.
