Stolen Ferrari Crashes During Police Chase

Miami police are investigating an early last Tuesday morning crash in Brickell involving a stolen Ferrari that authorities say struck a police cruiser and a utility pole while attempting to flee officers.

According to Miami police, the incident began after a woman reported her Ferrari stolen and provided information indicating the vehicle was pinging near Southwest 2nd Avenue and 17th Street. Officers responded to the area and observed an individual enter the Ferrari and drive away. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply and instead tried to flee.

During the attempted escape, police said the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Ferrari crashed into a marked police cruiser and then slammed into a utility pole. Video from the scene showed the impact snapping the pole in half as it cut through the vehicle, producing visible sparks throughout the area.

The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Deshawn Prendergast. Police said he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a laceration before being booked into jail. He faces multiple charges, including grand theft, fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. No officers were reported seriously injured.

Authorities believe the crashed Ferrari is connected to a separate luxury vehicle theft reported the previous evening in Miami Beach. According to the Miami Beach Police Department, officers began investigating around 5:30 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of two stolen vehicles. The missing vehicles were described as a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a 2024 Ferrari Purosangue.

Police said the initial investigation determined both vehicles had been released to a third-party transportation company for delivery to a business outside Miami Beach. Several hours later, the business owner notified the vehicle owner that the cars never arrived. The owner told police the theft may have occurred while the vehicles were in transit.

Authorities later recovered the Rolls-Royce Cullinan in Miami-Dade County. The Ferrari involved in the Brickell crash is believed to be the same vehicle reported stolen in the Miami Beach case.

The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing as police work to determine how the vehicles were taken and whether additional suspects may be involved.

All parties are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
