Two Years of Data Feeds a Focused Update
The next evolution of Ford’s Mustang GT3 race car is set to make its competitive debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona, capping off a development cycle that began the moment the car first entered global competition. Rather than a full redesign, the update represents a targeted refinement built on two years of performance data and feedback gathered from Mustang GT3 programs racing around the world.
Three Priorities: Aero, Kinematics, Brakes
Ford Racing engineers focused the update around three specific areas: aerodynamics, suspension kinematics, and braking. The goal was to improve competitiveness across a wide range of circuits and race formats, from tight technical road courses to high-speed endurance venues, while preserving the car’s core identity.
New Aero Package Aims for Predictability
The most visible changes are aerodynamic. New double dive planes, along with a revised front splitter and rear diffuser, are designed to increase downforce while improving efficiency and reducing sensitivity to ride height changes. The intent is a more predictable car that drivers of varying experience levels can push with confidence regardless of track surface or conditions. Ford Racing validated the aero package through extensive wind tunnel work and on-track testing at circuits including Portimão, Laguna Seca, and Watkins Glen since 2023.
Suspension Geometry Tuned to Match the New Aero Loads
To complement the aerodynamic changes, engineers revised the Mustang GT3’s front and rear suspension geometry, adjusting characteristics like anti-dive and camber gain to better handle the increased aerodynamic load. The changes are intended to improve tire performance consistency across multiple compounds and over long endurance stints.
Brembo Brakes Get Further Integration
Braking was the third focus area. Brembo hardware, already used across several Mustang racing platforms, received deeper integration into the GT3 program, with testing showing gains in durability, efficiency, and peak deceleration — all factors that matter in both sprint races and multi-hour endurance events.
Built on a Strong 2025 Season
Recent test sessions at Sebring and Daytona served as final validation before the car’s competitive return. Ford treated the Mustang GT3’s 2024 debut season as a learning phase, which helped fuel a strong 2025 campaign that included 14 global victories at major events. With the updated package now validated on track, the Mustang GT3 heads into its next chapter sharpened by real-world data and racing experience.
