A high-speed police chase that reportedly reached speeds of over 100 mph has led to the arrest of a suspect on multiple charges, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies received reports via Nemaha County radio of a potential stolen red RAM TRX pickup truck speeding eastbound on U.S. 36 Highway out of Seneca. A Brown County deputy, who was on U.S. 75 at the time, spotted the suspect vehicle and initiated a pursuit, heading east out of Fairview on U.S. 36.
The suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Adrian Richardson, was reportedly wearing a mask during the chase.
As the pursuit neared Hiawatha, law enforcement officers reduced their speed for public safety reasons, temporarily losing sight of the vehicle. A Hiawatha police officer later spotted the vehicle and continued the chase as Richardson headed south on U.S. 73.
According to Sheriff Merchant, the suspect vehicle tried multiple times to force motorists off the roadway while reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The chase continued towards Atchison on U.S. 73, but was terminated several miles west of Atchison city limits.
Shortly after entering Atchison, the suspect vehicle was found near Mound Street at Washington. Richardson was arrested near the Benedictine College ball field without incident.
Claiming to be homeless, Richardson is now being held in the Brown County Jail on multiple charges including Aggravated Assault, Reckless Driving, Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Interference with Law Enforcement Officers, No Drug Tax Stamp, and Felony Theft. Sheriff Merchant stated that further charges may be added as the investigation continues.
In addition to these charges, Richardson had two active warrants from Johnson County, including a $5000 Felony Failure to Appear Theft charge, and Jackson County, Missouri, for Felony Damage to Property.
The vehicle was towed to the Brown County Sheriff’s office and is being held as evidence. The case remains under investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
