A 76-year-old Florida woman has been arrested and charged after she drove two miles with a pedestrian on her car’s hood. What’s more, the driver is accused of hitting the victim first, then fleeing the scene and going up to 50 mph, allegedly all in an effort to not get in trouble.
British man says his Chinese electric car kidnapped him.
That driver, Cheryl Henderson, is now facing charges for leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, reports Fox 35 Orlando. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest after witnesses in Palm Coast, Florida called 911.
According to the report, the incident started with Henderson hitting the victim’s car. When the other party tried blocking Henderson from allegedly attempting to leave the scene, the 76-year-old hit the victim, an adult male, then took off. Witnesses saw the initial attack.
The man clung to the hood of Henderson’s crossover as the woman pushed it to speeds of up to 50 mph in an attempt to get away. One of the witnesses to the original accident followed behind, telling Fox 35 he tried to get Henderson to pull over while keeping other cars from getting close, just in case the man fell off.
Deputies were able to catch up to Henderson and force her crossover off the road, bringing he to a stop without seriously injuring the victim. You can see in the bodycam footage Henderson is wearing a shirt that ironically says “Think Positive Be Positive.” We’re positive hitting someone with your car, then driving for two miles while they cling to the hood is going to lead to serious consequences.
Henderson’s defense when deputies finally confronted her was that she had been trying to stop her grocery getter but couldn’t. That’s right up there with the dog eating your homework.
