This iconic muscle car, a piece of automotive history, is one of only ten known to exist, making it a coveted item for discerning collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The Yenko Camaro, chassis YS739, stands out as a remarkable example of American muscle car heritage. It was one of the earliest-built Yenko Camaros to endure through the decades, showcasing a blend of raw power and meticulous craftsmanship. This particular model underwent a Yenko Super Camaro 450 conversion at Dick Harrell’s Speed Shop, documented meticulously with copies of labor invoices from Dick Harrell to Yenko, and an invoice from Yenko selling the car to Burt Chevrolet.
The detailed Harrell paperwork reveals the extent of the conversion to a “450 Super Camaro.” This involved installing a 427 CI short block, Stewart Warner gauges, Mickey Thompson headers, an R.C. bellhousing, distinctive 427 emblems, hood pins, Autolite spark plug wires, and Traction Master traction bars.
This Yenko Camaro benefitted from a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by the previous owner and restoration specialist Mike Slaughter. It boasts an American Camaro Association Legends Certification and is “certified original” by renowned Camaro judge and restorer Larry Christensen, accompanied by a comprehensive inspection report both pre and post-restoration.
The accolades for this Chevy Camaro are numerous, including the MCACN Day Two Concours Diamond Award, scoring 992 out of 1000 points, and the Gold Spinner Concours, with a near-perfect score of 998 points. It was a finalist for the GoodGuys Muscle Car of the Year and won the Super Chevy Show Denver Gold Class and Best Paint.
The Camaro’s striking Butternut Yellow finish with Black standard interior remains true to its factory original color combination. It retains its original quarter panels, roof, and floor pans, and features a special 1967 Corvette-style fiberglass stinger hood. The heart of this muscle car, a 427 CI engine built by Dean Davis of Moline, IL, was dyno-tested at over 500 HP. Built at Norwood in the 4th week of June 1967 and converted to a Yenko Super Camaro 450 by Dick Harrell, this car was originally sold at Burt Chevrolet in Englewood, Colorado, on August 1, 1967.
