Reports out of Spokane indicate the primary suspect, 19-year-old Fran Anunar, was the one who cut a hole in the roof of the small dealership, then rappelled inside after allegedly planning the heist for months. When he appeared in court for an initial hearing the teenager was smug, laughing about the crime and his public defender stating he’s never worked a job in his life.

We’ve seen more of this kind of behavior lately, that is criminals who think getting caught and punished for their misdeeds is all a big joke. Maybe it has something to do with soft-on-crime policies or maybe these kids don’t take anything seriously, we don’t know, but it’s disturbing.

Police say Anunar spilled the beans with a detective during the interview, admitting he was the one caught on surveillance footage breaking into the dealership. He detailed out where he and his accomplices stashed at least eight cars stolen from the business. It’s almost like the guy wants to brag about what a criminal mastermind he supposedly is.

Since about late 2019 we’ve noticed an uptick in thieves breaking into dealerships in the middle of the night to steal cars. They probably figure with nobody around the business is a nice soft target with plenty of rides to steal. And it seems far too many dealerships do little to properly secure vehicle keys overnight, allowing thieves to drive away with little hassle.
