Cop Almost Mowed Down At Chicago Street Takeover

Estimated read time 2 min read

A police officer putting down Stop Sticks to keep a car from leaving a Chicago street takeover was almost run over by the driver of that vehicle. The whole thing was caught on video, showing yet again how dangerous and stupid these illegal events are and why attempting to break them up is incredibly risky.

Watch Georgia police take down some street takeover dorks.

Trying to mow a cop, or anyone else, down with your car should be considered attempted murder. This suspect is lucky police didn’t open fire, responding to his use of deadly force with deadly force of their own. Instead, he was able to drive away with the rest of the law breakers who participated in the takeover on New Year’s Eve night.

NBC Chicago reports that police are now investigating the incident. That’s to be expected, honestly, but we wonder if they do catch the driver just what kinds of consequences will he face? After all, it seems like quite a few dangerous criminals in the city get a slap on the wrist and that’s about it, so we’re not holding our breath in anticipation of anything more in this case.

On that note, perhaps this is why street takeovers have become such a frequent occurrence in Chicago and other cities. After all, if there’s really no consequence for participating in or standing there and filming them, why would these kids stop having them? They get plenty of TikTok clout from proudly posting the videos, encouraging even more to jump into the illegal revelry later.

Until they get the hammer dropped on them, we think these takeover events will only increase in frequency in these cities. Other cities have taken the gloves off and gone after street takeovers with vigor and that has resulted in them not being held in those places anymore. Imagine that.
