1969 Camaro Recovered From North Carolina Chop Shop

Estimated read time 2 min read

A 1969 Chevy Camaro stolen just two days after Christmas has been found at an alleged chop shop in North Carolina. Call it a post-Christmas miracle that the classic American muscle car isn’t completely torn apart as local law enforcement busted the operation before the Sawzall came for this beauty.

Angry Texas man gets his stolen Camaro back himself.

It took the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office only four days to track down this stolen Camaro, which is phenomenal. Officials say they started scouting out different locations and hit paydirt, not only uncovering the alleged chop shop with the Chevy but also an illegal narcotics stash.

Surveillance footage shared by the ’69 Camaro’s owner on social media shows the thieves pushing the car away at 2 in the morning, not daring the start the engine likely for fear the burly V8 would be too loud.

That surveillance footage was good enough along with other information collected by investigators to get search warrants for several locations. This is why we tell people to put up cameras. While they might not deter theft, they can help identify who took your ride and help with its recovery.

The owner, Mike Beard, seems ecstatic to have his baby back mostly intact and who can blame him? We’ve covered far too many stories like this where the outcome was absolutely tragic, so we’re glad his was far different.

We hope Mike takes some extra security steps, as should you with your ride. Even if you don’t have a classic beauty like this Camaro, keep in mind thieves will steal Kias and Hyundais, sometimes to joyride and sometimes to use in other crimes. Either way, it pays to have cameras, park your vehicle in a secure building, buying a tracking device, and employ any other security measures to make your car difficult to steal and easier to recover.
