Thieves Swipe C8 Corvette Z06, Two More Vehicles From Tennessee Dealership

Estimated read time 2 min read

One of the disturbing trends we’ve watched unfold during the past few years of increasing car thefts is criminals targeting dealerships. While a few brazen ones take vehicles in the middle of the day, most break in at night and easily take whatever they want. It happened again, this time in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

A gas station was responsible for bringing a Dodge Hellcat chase to a close.

Everything went down in the early morning hours of March 1. Among the cars taken was a convertible C8 Corvette Z06 the dealer says is worth almost $150,000. They also took a GMC Sierras 2500 and a GMC Yukon.

In surveillance footage shared in WKRN’s report, we see the thieves broke a window to get inside then used a crowbar to get into the lockbox. They knew exactly where to go for keys and license plates. Why dealers don’t keep both items in highly secure safes at night is beyond us.

Thieves seem to know most dealerships don’t have tight security. All they have to do is smash or pry their way inside and they can take pretty much whatever they like.

Like in most dealership theft cases, the criminals had to stop at a nearby gas station to fuel up since dealers typically keep only a few gallons of gas in vehicles. While the guy driving the C8Z keeps his face covering and gloves on, surveillance cameras captured the uncovered face of the Yukon driver.

While these GM vehicles come with OnStar tracking, thieves know where the modules are located and rip them out soon after stealing them. That’s what happened in this case, stopping efforts at recovering the sports car, truck, and SUV.

However, the Yukon was later found with a flat tire abandoned behind a vacant house in Birmingham, Alabama. The other two vehicles are still missing.
