Fleeing Camaro ZL1 Driver Can’t Handle The Muscle Car

There’s no doubt about it, a Chevy Camaro ZL1 is one fast ride. But this suspect quickly learns while trying to run from the law that being behind the wheel of a powerful muscle car doesn’t mean you can handle it or get away.

Watch a Jeep Trackhawk burn rubber literally while leading cops on a high-speed chase.

The ZL1 was in fact stolen and once the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Blackhawk Unit became aware of that by running the plate, which belongs to a 2006 Chevy Tahoe, deputies tried pulling the high-powered American muscle car over. But the driver had a different idea in mind.

In the dashcam footage we’ve included, you can see the one Blackhawk cruiser transitions lanes so it’s behind the Chevy, then activates its emergency lights in an attempted traffic stop. The suspect seems to be complying, hitting the brakes, then the emergency flashers.

Suddenly, the suspect drops the hammer and the Camaro ZL1 rockets away, gapping the deputy’s cruiser by an embarrassing amount. There’s a reason why these muscle cars are closer to a force of nature than a vehicle.

But driving a powerful ride at high speeds through sweeping turns with road imperfections, traffic, and intersections takes a crazy amount of skill this suspect doesn’t have. As the one cruiser nears a red light the deputies inside not only spot a cloud of smoke or dust in the air over the intersection but a few pieces of the Chevy on a cement island.

More parts of the fleeing vehicle are spotted on the other side of the intersection, but not the core of the Camaro. It’s obvious the driver kept going after a minor crash which ripped away chunks of the ride, desperate to get away from the law.

But at the next intersection the smoldering carcass of the ZL1 sat just beyond a curb at one of the corners, the once proud muscle car relegated to ruination. Thankfully the suspect driver was caught running away on foot so he’ll answer for his crimes, although the guy seems to have some experience getting arrested.
