With rumors of Dodge Charger Daytonas, the all-electric “muscle car,” piling up on dealer lots combined with lackluster sales, it’s not a surprise a new report claims Dodge is axing the Charger Dayton R/T. That’s right, it’s done for.
Children mock a broken down Tesla Cybertruck.
This change is supposed to come down the line for the 2026 model year, shocking many who thought maybe Dodge would stay the course a little longer. There might actually be hope for the brand yet.
This claim comes from Mopar Insiders, which says the Charger Daytona is going to be available to shoppers as an order-only model starting in the new year. In other words, it’s not just that the R/T trim is going away, Stellantis is realizing its new electric car is just unpopular.
We’re really not surprised. After all, who was this vehicle made for, anyway? Hardcore Mopar muscle car guys hate EVs and love Hemi V8s. But the Hemi was killed off in favor of this EV that has fake, awful “engine” sounds. Seriously, it’s a noise that will haunt us forever.
The EV fanboy crowd isn’t going to flock to Dodge dealerships to own a Charger Daytona. They’re much more comfortable with Tesla’s business model or even going to other brands. After all, Dodge is the car company of testosterone and roasting tires, not eco-consciousness and vegan leather.
All this feeds into the rumor that the Hemi V8 is in fact returning and will be put into the new Dodge Charger this fall. Supposedly, engineers designed the new car so the Hemi would fit under the hood with the hope things would change.
There are even rumors a new version of the Challenger, which for right now is just plain dead, will be coming out to challenge the S650 Mustang. We hope all of this comes about as Dodge finally makes muscle cars great again.
