They don’t make them like they used to, which might be why getting this 1959 Chevy Bel Air as a project classic car might be appealing to you. We know a lot of people who want to get into the car hobby and drive something from the 50s, 60s, or 70s but they sincerely believe to do that they must spend $80,000 or more just to buy the ride.

Dodge is giving up on its all-electric Charger R/T.

Sure, this thing obviously needs some work, so it’s no turnkey vehicle. The seller says while the body is straight, and the photos certainly portray it as such, the floor pans apparently need some work.

We’re guessing rust has gotten the better of the underside of this old Bel Air. Because the photos don’t show the frame, we can’t say if it’s a graham cracker or just fine.

But we do know this rid has a straight six under the hood which might be original and definitely is period correct. You could always keep that and just get it running or do something like an LS swap for modern reliability and power.

The real draw for a ride like this is the unique styling. In the late 50s, American automakers were facing more competition from European brands which had targeted this market. To stave off Mercedes, Jaguar, and others, the Big Three went all out of styling.

That’s why this Bel Air is so long, with swooping body lines and plenty of chrome. The back end is iconic with “cats eyes” taillights and that unique trunk lid. You really can’t buy a car that comes even close to this in styling these days.

A ride like this ’59 Chevy Bel Air isn’t for everyone, especially since it’s a project on wheels. Would you want to take it on?
