A civil court vehicle seizure in South Florida turned into a dangerous street-level struggle when a man allegedly tried to escape in his 2019 Chevrolet Corvette while a Broward County sheriff’s deputy was partially inside the car.

What should have been a routine levy over an unpaid civil judgment suddenly became a violent confrontation involving injuries, criminal charges, and a deputy hanging onto the side of a moving C7 Corvette as it accelerated down a residential street.
And that’s where this story stops being just another repossession dispute.
According to details released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and footage published by CrimeCamNow, the incident happened Jan. 14, 2026, when a deputy with the agency’s Civil Division arrived at a home to execute a writ tied to a judgment against a man, his wife, and their jointly owned Corvette Stingray.
At first, everything appeared to be under control.
The family reportedly cooperated with deputies after they were unable to satisfy the court judgment. The deputy was allowed into the garage, where the yellow Corvette was being kept. The couple’s adult son even helped get the car running by jump-starting it and moving it into the driveway.
That detail matters because the situation could have ended right there.
Instead, the Corvette remained running while the deputy allowed the owner to retrieve personal belongings from inside the car before the tow process continued. According to investigators, the man suddenly climbed into the driver’s seat instead of collecting his items.
Body camera footage reportedly shows the deputy trying to stop him as the situation deteriorated in seconds.
The deputy repeatedly ordered the man to step out while trying to keep the door from shutting. Then the Corvette lurched forward.
The deputy was partially trapped as the sports car accelerated down the street, forcing him to cling onto the vehicle while trying to stop it from getting away. The footage shows the deputy struggling alongside the moving Corvette before the car finally came to a stop.
That’s the kind of moment that can go catastrophically wrong in a hurry.
A modern Corvette isn’t some underpowered commuter car. Even a base C7 Stingray has enough power to turn a panic move into a deadly one almost instantly. Once the car started moving with the deputy hanging onto it, the risk level changed completely.
According to authorities, the deputy suffered injuries to his lip and leg during the incident. He later described being dragged down the roadway while hanging onto the outside of the Corvette.
The car also struck an unknown object during the attempted escape, causing additional damage to the already-seized sports car.
Meanwhile, the owner’s son could reportedly be heard pleading with his father to stop while trying to calm the situation before it became even worse. The deputy eventually managed to stop the Corvette and detain the driver with assistance from the son.
This is where the story turns.
After the incident, the man reportedly complained of chest pain and was transported to Memorial Miramar Hospital. Investigators later read him his Miranda rights there, but authorities said he declined to speak about the incident.
He now faces serious criminal charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
That’s a massive escalation from what began as a civil enforcement action over unpaid debt.
A repossession or court levy is already financially brutal for most people involved. Losing a performance car like a Corvette only adds emotion to the situation, especially for enthusiasts who often have personal identity tied to their vehicles. But once physical force enters the picture, the consequences become much larger than the car itself.

During the aftermath, the man’s son reportedly told deputies that his father had a long history of emotional instability and had previously undergone voluntary mental health evaluation. According to the report, the son described frustration as a trigger that could cause his father to lose control emotionally.
That doesn’t erase what happened on the street, but it does add context to how rapidly the situation escalated from cooperation to violence.
The deputy remained on scene with the family while supervisors and emergency responders arrived. Authorities noted that despite how dangerous the confrontation became, no bystanders were injured during the attempted escape.
Frankly, that may be one of the luckiest parts of this entire incident.
A moving sports car, a deputy hanging outside the vehicle, a residential street, and a panicked driver is a combination that could have ended with somebody seriously injured or killed. Instead, the deputy survived with relatively minor injuries, the family remained unharmed, and the Corvette was eventually towed away under the original court order.
But the fallout is still enormous.
