General Motors has named Allyson Witherspoon as chief marketing officer for Buick and GMC, filling a leadership position that has been vacant since Suzanne Guzzo departed the automaker earlier this year.
Witherspoon confirmed the move in a LinkedIn post following initial reporting by Ad Age.
“I’m thrilled to share that I will be joining General Motors as Chief Marketing Officer for Buick and GMC,” Witherspoon wrote. “It’s an incredible honor to partner with a strategic and talented leadership team and dealer network to steer both brands into the next era.”
She added that she looks forward to “helping write the next chapter for two iconic American brands in Buick and GMC.”
The appointment comes under Executive Vice President Lin-Hua Wu, who assumed oversight of General Motors’ marketing organization in November 2025.
According to Ad Age, Wu said Witherspoon’s combination of creative leadership and data-driven decision-making made her the right choice for the role.
“I am confident Allyson will be successful in helping us write the next chapter for Buick and GMC,” Wu told the publication.
Witherspoon brings more than a decade of automotive marketing experience to GM. She joined Nissan in 2013 as marketing director for Infiniti before becoming Nissan U.S. chief marketing officer in 2019. In 2023, she relocated to Japan to oversee the automaker’s global marketing, branding, and merchandising operations before returning to the United States in 2024 to once again lead Nissan’s U.S. marketing organization.
Before joining Nissan, Witherspoon worked at several advertising agencies, managing campaigns for automotive brands including Nissan, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo.
During her tenure, the company reported an 8.8 percent year-over-year increase in U.S. sales during the second quarter of 2026.
At General Motors, Witherspoon will oversee marketing for Buick and GMC, a role that has been vacant since Suzanne Guzzo’s departure earlier this year.
In her LinkedIn post, Witherspoon also thanked her former colleagues at Nissan and Infiniti following more than 12 years with the company.
“Thinking back on the last 12.5 years leaves me speechless,” she wrote. “People are what make the company great so thank you for the support over the years. Please keep pushing towards the future.”
Witherspoon is expected to relocate from Nissan’s U.S. headquarters in Tennessee, to the Detroit area as she begins her new role.
