Most people take home a lunchbox from work. Police say one Ford worker in Michigan took home hoods, bumpers and grilles, brand new and straight off the assembly line. They say he did it for about two years, and the parts added up to millions of dollars before anyone noticed.

It’s back on TikTok, and the viral version gets the basics right and a few key details wrong. (We first covered the case in November 2025.)

What happened

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Dearborn police arrested four men after a months-long investigation with Ford’s global security team. Officers served search warrants at homes in Dearborn and Canton and at two Detroit businesses, according to the City of Dearborn.

Police say a Ford employee was the inside man. Reports described the other three suspects as a Dearborn father and his two sons (The Drive). Police did not release any names.

The haul allegedly included new hoods, bumpers, taillights, headlights and running boards. FOX 2 Detroit reported the parts came from Ford plants in Wayne, Dearborn and Flat Rock. Those plants build the F-150, Bronco, Ranger and Mustang.

How it allegedly worked

Police say the scheme was simple. The employee took new parts out of the plant and delivered them to a Detroit auto shop. The shop then resold them, including on eBay (Carscoops).

According to FOX 2, this went on for more than two years. When police searched one Detroit business, they found it packed with new parts from floor to ceiling. Police footage showed pallets marked “Property of Ford.”

Nobody has put an exact dollar figure on it. Police described the total as “millions of dollars” in new parts.

What the viral version gets wrong

A TikTok posted in September 2026 calls this the story of how “Ford Employees” stole millions. Before you share it:

  • It’s old news. The arrests were in May 2025. Nothing new happened in 2026.
  • One employee, not several. Police tied one Ford worker to the scheme. Reports described the other three suspects as relatives, not Ford staff.
  • His job status is unclear. Outlets called him a current, former or even retired Ford employee.
  • These are allegations. Police said charges such as racketeering and operating a criminal enterprise were pending with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. We haven’t confirmed any convictions.

Check the price tag

A brand-new OEM hood at half the dealer price has a backstory. Police say this one came straight off a Ford line. Ever bought “new” parts online and wondered where they really came from?
