In the realm of classic muscle cars, few are as coveted as the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, a masterpiece of American automotive design and power. This exceptional vehicle, known for its rarity and high-performance capabilities, is making waves as it heads to auction at Mecum’s Kissimmee event in 2024, with an estimated value between $2.5 to $3 million.

This particular Hemi Cuda Convertible, with its VIN BS27R0B305097, stands out as one of only 14 produced for the 1970 model year. Of these, it is one of just nine equipped with an automatic transmission. Its striking Lemon Twist exterior and Tan interior make it a visually stunning piece, complemented by a 426/425 HP V-8 engine under the hood.

The car’s journey is as remarkable as its engineering. Initially ordered for Canadian export, it was a bold choice in 1970, given the high insurance costs associated with big-block convertibles. This model, documented with two broadcast sheets, has been meticulously restored by Legendary Motorcar in Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. The restoration process included stripping the body to bare metal and refinishing it to OEM standards, ensuring authenticity and attention to detail.

The car’s powertrain, a hallmark of the Hemi Cuda, features the legendary 426 Hemi engine with 1970 specifications, including 10.25 compression, large port heads, and dual Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetors. This powerhouse is paired with an A727 Torqueflite transmission and a Hemi suspension, indicating a Sure Grip differential. The restoration preserved the originality of the vehicle, with production line markings and tags meticulously placed throughout the engine bay and undercarriage.

The interior, in H6T5 Tan vinyl, is a rare sight and perfectly complements the Lemon Twist exterior and black convertible top. The car is equipped with power brakes, manual steering, and a black convertible top, adding to its allure.

This 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, a one-of-one as optioned, represents a unique piece of automotive history. Its combination of rarity, power, and stunning aesthetics make it a true gem in the muscle car world, offering collectors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of American automotive royalty.
