Back on December 3, 2023 police in Miami, Florida were dispatched to track down a cargo van stolen from a car dealership. The driver was a mental health patient who escaped from a facility and decided to take the vehicle, which had the keys left inside. That’s when this suspect shows just what a modern cargo van can do.

We honestly wouldn’t have suspected a cargo van would make all that good of a getaway vehicle, to be honest. But at the same time we know even a great car in the hands of a poor driver won’t guarantee even passable results on the road or a track. So perhaps this mental health patient has received some solid instruction on driving in the past, because the guy’s got some solid skills.
He’s able to thread the needle with the Ford Transit, giving him some room. However, the van is significantly slower than Florida Highway Patrol. But when a trooper tries pitting this suspect, he knows how to get loose and wiggle out like a pro. It’s really something to see. After all, if you’ve driven these taller cargo vans, they’re not exactly super stable nor do they handle like they’re on rails. They’re pretty sloppy all around.
On one of the PIT attempts, the trooper spins the van out, but the suspect recovers and gets going again, even hitting the trooper’s cruiser. That’s when the lead trooper tries battering the van into the center divider, but he almost ends of kissing the concrete nose-first. However, his cruiser is badly battered and out of the fight at this point.
However, the suspect gave up not too long after, so the Transit was probably done for as well. What a wild ride.
One more thing about this video: we see yet again how people in Florida don’t pull over for police going lights and sirens. While we’ve seen the same problem elsewhere, Florida is one of the worst we’ve noticed consistently. Why are Floridians that way?
