Georgia State Police halted a stolen Isuzu NPR landscaping truck using the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) on April 25th, 2021. The dramatic footage from the police dashcam, which was only recently released, showcases the chase and subsequent use of the PIT maneuver as the truck sped toward downtown Atlanta.

As per the police report, the officers were already on the tail of the stolen vehicle when they attempted to signal the driver to pull over. Instead of complying, the driver escalated the situation with dangerous swerving and near-misses with other vehicles on the road.

With some effort, the GSP units managed to partially encircle the landscaping truck. However, the defiant driver pressed on. Seizing an opportunity on a clearer stretch of the highway, Trooper Ennis executed the PIT maneuver, targeting the truck’s right rear bumper, leading to the truck making a dramatic 180-degree turn.

The video captures the large vehicle skidding sideways, slamming into a barrier, disrupting fencing, and finally toppling onto its side. Subsequent to the truck’s immobilization, officers in a Dodge Charger arrived promptly on the scene. They broke the vehicle’s windshield to arrest the driver, who, fortunately, did not sustain serious injuries. After a brief medical examination at Grady Hospital, the driver was detained.

This incident stands out in the annals of police pursuits, not just for the sheer size of the vehicle but also for the adept use of the PIT maneuver by the Georgia State Police officers. The technique, while frequently employed, is seldom used against such large vehicles, underscoring the skill and judgment of the officers involved.
