Dashcam video captured the moment a patrol unit closed in and deployed the device, which wrapped around a front tire of the fleeing truck and locked the wheel in place. Within seconds, the vehicle skidded to a halt, allowing officers to make an arrest without injuries.
Police said the chase unfolded with little time to spare, as the stolen truck continued accelerating through traffic. Instead of relying on traditional pursuit measures, officers selected the grappler system, a design meant to reduce crash risks during pursuits by immobilizing a vehicle’s wheel rather than striking it or forcing it off the road.
