Cadillac CTS Goes Flying, Crashes Into Train Tracks

Estimated read time 2 min read

We’ve seen a lot of crazy accidents, but there seems to be an uptick in cars crashing into train tracks. That might sound like some impossibility, but it happens every once in a while, although more recently it’s been even more frequent. The latest example is a Cadillac CTS out of Alto, Georgia.

Watch a woman fleeing from police get hit by two trains.

The odd crash happened just after midnight on December 6 after the car inexplicably blasted through a stop sign, ran off the road, hit a curb, and went sailing through the air. According to local news outlet Now Habersham, the two people in the Cadillac died at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene and figured out the final pathway of the Caddie, which dove nose-first into the train tracks, coming to rest against a railroad car parked on the tracks. Investigators believe it flew about 30 feet in the air before impact.

Both the 46-year-old male driver and a 61-year-old passenger died at the scene of the accident. Police didn’t release their names and no other details were available.

A whole range of possibilities could have caused this kind of accident. It’s possible the driver suffered medical episode and pressed on the accelerator, blowing through the stop sign, across two traffic lanes, and hitting the curb. Pure recklessness is also a possibility. While not as likely given the ages of the occupants, the two could’ve been joyriding in a stolen vehicle. We just don’t know what happened and investigators might still be determining that.

Ultimately, this is yet another reminder of how careful we all need to be while behind the wheel. Modern cars are often quite powerful and able to achieve high speeds quickly, making getting in a sudden accident like this all too real of a possibility.
