Blown Tire Sends Chevy Rolling Into Wall and Second Car on US-183 Near Mustang Ridge

An Early-Morning Crash on US-183

A tire blowout triggered a serious crash just after dawn near Mustang Ridge, Texas, leaving two people injured. The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on US-183 near the 11400 block, when a red Chevrolet traveling north experienced a tire failure.

Loss of Control Leads to a Rollover

According to police, the driver lost control after the tire failed, striking two concrete walls before the vehicle rolled over. The Chevy then struck a second vehicle before coming to rest upside down.

Two Taken to the Hospital

The two adults inside the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and were taken to St. David’s in Austin for treatment; their conditions have not been publicly confirmed. The occupants of the second vehicle, four adults and a child, were not injured, and their car remained drivable after the collision.

Highway Closure and Cleanup

Cleanup crews closed lanes on the highway to clear the wreckage, causing delays for morning commuters until the roadway reopened.

Cause of the Tire Failure Still Under Review

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the tire to fail, whether a mechanical defect, road hazard, or another factor was responsible. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the root cause of the failure that set off the crash.
