Durango SRT Takes On Clayton County’s Elite Blackhawk Unit

Estimated read time 2 min read

We have a special treat for you today: a member of Clayton County’s elite Blackhawk unit chasing a suspect driving a Dodge Durango SRT down. This is the kind of faceoff we don’t see too often, so it’s always interesting to note how things play out, and this particular chase doesn’t disappoint.

Watch a kidnapping suspect bail from a moving Dodge Durango.

Clayton County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia created a special Blackhawk unit back in 2020 specifically to address traffic violations. The elite group not only chases down speeders but also goes up against drug runners, car thieves, and other dangerous criminals.

In this case, the Blackhawk unit clocked the offending Mopar going 97 mph in a 65 mph zone, putting him well within the definition of a Super Speeder under Georgia state law. Both Blackhawk members who were on the side of the highway immediately give chase.

They catch up to the Durango with relative ease, go lights and sirens, but the suspect refuses to pull over. Instead, he decides to go all-out against the cops, a big mistake you’ll see doesn’t turn out well for him at all.

In short order, pursuit speeds punch above 100 mph as all three performance Mopars flex their muscles. While the suspect has a capable vehicle, the different is he doesn’t have the type of training the Blackhawks do.

That becomes apparent as his back end gets a little squirrely as the Durango goes through a sweeping transition ramp from one highway to another. Our suspect doesn’t understand the upper limits of his vehicle and in a chase that doesn’t bode well at all.

Right on cue, the guy punches it coming out of the turn, torque steering right into the retaining wall for the highway. He essentially PITs himself out for the Blackhawks, demonstrating once again that you can have a hot car yet suck at driving and get caught thanks to your own incompetence.
