Wildfire Victim Tesla Owner Claims EV Is ‘Literally Saving My Life’

A Tesla Model X owner is singing praises for his EV, saying it is “literally saving my life” as he fled California’s wildfires recently. However, not everyone is convinced the pricey electric crossover did anything a used Toyota Corolla couldn’t in the same situation. But the owner is crediting a unique feature in the Model X for preserving his life.

Someone stashed his classic car collection in a McDonald’s parking lot to save it from the wildfires in California.

That feature is of course Biodefense Mode. Try not to laugh if you remember what it is. But it appears a lot of people have forgotten what really amounted to a gimmick when the Model X was launched years ago.

Biodefense Mode uses a HEPA filter to scrub the outside air as it’s brought into the vehicle’s cabin. So, what this guy seems to be arguing is that the air filtration system kept him from dying because of the smoke from the fires.

Yet in the photos in his post on X about this wondrous feature “literally saving my life,” we see an old first-gen Honda CR-V, among other newer rides going down the road. There must’ve been a dead person behind the wheel of the Honda, same with the Audi and such, because they couldn’t survive all the smoke pluming in the distance without a HEPA filter in their car.

Some other Tesla faithful commented on the guy’s post praising Biodefense Mode and even questioning why it isn’t on the much cheaper Model Y (answer: it’s cheaper). One even suggested he should encourage all those people driving gas-powered cars to just abandon them to the fires and hitch a ride in the EV to safety and a brighter tomorrow.

In case you’re a Tesla owner wondering why so many people give you grief for your vehicle choice, this is one good reason. The smugness and naivety of far too many Tesla owners is almost too much to bear, not to mention their drama queen ways when explaining how their luxury EV is “literally saving my life.”
